Article overview
This critical review examines psychological adjustment during rehabilitation and decisions about returning to sport, with knee ligament reconstruction providing much of its empirical context. It considers identity, fear of another injury and readiness to participate. The synthesis distinguishes physical capacity from willingness and from the opportunity to return with support. It also separates evidence about return rates from evidence about subsequent injury, avoiding the assumption that a readiness score or plausible intervention establishes safety or effectiveness.
